Electro Acupuncture for Alpha-Gal Allergy: Moreland Chiropractic Clinic

At Moreland Chiropractic Clinic in Rolla, Missouri, we are always looking for ways to better serve our patients and help them live healthier, fuller lives. We are excited to announce that we offer electro acupuncture as part of our treatment options for Alpha-Gal Allergy.

Dr. David Moreland brings over 32 years of experience in acupuncture. Throughout that time, he has studied and practiced multiple techniques designed to help the body restore balance and function. Because Alpha-Gal Allergy can affect each person differently, Dr. Moreland offers several acupuncture-based approaches, allowing care to be tailored to the specific needs of each patient.

Understanding Alpha-Gal Allergy

Alpha-Gal Syndrome (AGS) is a relatively new and increasingly recognized allergy. It is typically associated with bites from the Lone Star tick, which can trigger an immune response to galactose-α-1,3-galactose, a sugar molecule found in mammalian meat and other animal-derived products.

Unlike most food allergies that cause immediate symptoms, Alpha-Gal reactions can occur several hours after exposure, making it more difficult to identify. Symptoms may include:

Hives or itching

Digestive discomfort

Fatigue

Shortness of breath

Severe allergic reactions in some cases

Because the symptoms can vary widely from person to person, accurate diagnosis and monitoring are extremely important.

The Importance of Blood Testing

A key part of identifying and managing Alpha-Gal Syndrome is proper blood testing. Laboratory tests can measure Alpha-Gal IgE antibodies, which help confirm the diagnosis and track changes over time.

At Moreland Chiropractic Clinic, we emphasize that blood work is essential for several reasons:

Confirming the diagnosis of Alpha-Gal Syndrome

Monitoring antibody levels over time

Helping guide treatment decisions

Evaluating patient progress

Acupuncture and related therapies are best used alongside proper medical testing and monitoring, ensuring that patients receive a well-informed and responsible approach to care.

What Is Electro Acupuncture?

Electro acupuncture is a modern adaptation of traditional acupuncture. After acupuncture needles are placed at specific points on the body, a gentle electrical stimulation is applied between pairs of needles. This stimulation helps enhance the effect of the acupuncture points and can promote improved nerve signaling, circulation, and energetic balance.

For patients with Alpha-Gal issues, electro acupuncture may help support:

Regulation of immune responses

Reduction of inflammatory activity

Improved autonomic nervous system balance

Because each patient’s symptoms and sensitivities differ, Dr. Moreland carefully evaluates which method—or combination of methods—may be most appropriate.

Auricular Acupuncture: A Powerful Complementary Approach

Another method frequently used in Alpha-Gal care is auricular acupuncture, sometimes referred to as ear acupuncture.

Auricular acupuncture is based on the concept that the ear contains a microsystem representing the entire body. By stimulating specific points on the ear, practitioners can influence related organs and physiological systems.

Treatment may involve:

Very small acupuncture needles

Ear seeds or small press needles that remain in place temporarily

Targeted stimulation of immune, digestive, and nervous system points

Auricular acupuncture has been used worldwide for a wide range of conditions, including allergy-related disorders. Many practitioners report strong clinical outcomes, with improvement rates often reported in the 70–80% range for symptom reduction in allergy-related applications when used as part of a comprehensive care plan. Individual results can vary, but the technique is valued for being gentle, precise, and well-tolerated.

A Personalized Approach to Alpha-Gal Care

No two Alpha-Gal cases are exactly the same. Some patients primarily struggle with digestive symptoms, while others experience skin reactions, fatigue, or more severe allergic responses.

With three decades of acupuncture experience, Dr. Moreland evaluates each patient carefully and may use a combination of approaches, including:

Traditional body acupuncture

Electro acupuncture

Auricular (ear) acupuncture

Supportive lifestyle and nutritional guidance

The goal is always to support the body’s natural regulatory systems while carefully monitoring progress alongside appropriate medical testing.

Hope for Patients in the Ozarks

Alpha-Gal Syndrome has become increasingly common throughout the Missouri and Ozark regions, largely due to the prevalence of the Lone Star tick. Many people feel frustrated when symptoms limit their diet or daily life.

Our goal at Moreland Chiropractic Clinic is to provide knowledge, options, and encouragement for those navigating this condition. With modern acupuncture techniques such as electro acupuncture and auricular therapy, combined with proper diagnostic blood work, patients may have additional tools to help them manage their health.
