Neck pain and arm pain?

Unfortunately you may suffer from a degenerated or herniated disc.   This is a common problem that requires attention.  Disc in between the vertebrae in the cervical spine bulge or herniate backwards and impinge on spinal nerves. 

The pain the patient perceives is most often in the arm, hands, and neck.  Foraminal compression, an orthopedic test, reproduces the patient’s pain.  Distraction of the cervical spine often reduces the patient’s pain.   These are very common test employed by chiropractors and orthopedist. 

The patient may develop numbness and weakness in the hands and arms.  Grip strength is also used as a quick test to determine if there is nerve damage.  More in depth diagnostics such as MRI/CT or even x-ray may be used to diagnose the disc bulge as well.  Although x-rays do not show the disc bulge itself there are often signs of the condition on the films.  Currently MRI is the most used test for bulging or herniated disc.

Chiropractic is a safe and non-evasive way of treating the bulging disc.  Chiropractic care seeks to reduce the size of the disc bulge.  Restore the normal movement of the spine and normal lordodic curve that is often lost in the cervical spine and associated with degenerative disc disease.
