The Digital Shift in CDL DOT Exams

The Digital Shift in CDL Physical Exam Paperwork: What Drivers Need to Know in 2025–2026

At Moreland Chiropractic Clinic, we believe your health care should be efficient, accurate, and stress free, especially when it comes to something as important as your CDL physical exam. Over the next two years, commercial driver medical certification is continuing its major digital transformation, and we want our drivers to understand exactly what’s changing and how it benefits you.

From Paper to Digital: A Big Upgrade

For many years, CDL physical exams relied heavily on paper forms and driver follow‑ups at the DMV. That process often meant extra trips, long waits, and unnecessary delays in keeping your commercial driving status active.

In 2025 and 2026, the system is now largely digital. Medical examiners no longer just hand paperwork to drivers and hope it gets filed correctly. Instead, certified examiners enter exam results directly into the federal system, significantly reducing errors and saving drivers valuable time.

We’re Registered and That Matters

Moreland Chiropractic Clinic is registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). That means when you complete your CDL physical with us:

Your exam results are electronically submitted directly into the National Registry

Your medical certification is immediately connected to your CDL record

There is no waiting period for paperwork to be processed

This direct entry is one of the biggest advantages of the digital system—and one that makes life easier for drivers.

Do I Still Need to Go to the DMV?

For most drivers, no additional DMV visit is needed.

Once we submit your exam electronically:

Your medical certification is automatically linked to your CDL

You do not need to hand‑deliver forms to the DMV

Your driving status remains current without extra steps

The only times you may need to visit the DMV are if:

You are new to the CDL medical system

You have moved to a new state

Your CDL has been downgraded or expired

Otherwise, the digital submission process handles everything behind the scenes.

You Still Get Your Paperwork (and Your Card)

Even though the system is digital, we know drivers like having documentation for their records. That hasn’t changed.

At your visit, we still provide:

Your completed medical exam paperwork

A small laminated CDL medical card for easy reference

These are helpful for personal records, employers, and peace of mind—while the official certification lives securely in the federal system.

Why This Change Is Good for Drivers

The digital shift is designed with drivers in mind:

✔ Fewer DMV trips

✔ Faster certification updates

✔ Reduced risk of lost or delayed paperwork

✔ Less stress and downtime

Our goal is to make sure your CDL physical exam is quick, accurate, and hassle‑free, so you can stay focused on the road.
